Modern diesel is full of bar myths. Let's separate what's true from what will cost you a breakdown, with workshop expertise.
Myth: "you have to push a diesel hard on the motorway every week"
Half-truth. The DPF needs to run to regenerate, but you don't need to speed: 20-30 minute drives at operating temperature are enough. The real problem is 100% city driving and short trips.
Myth: "long-life oil doesn't matter"
False. In diesel engines with turbo, EGR, and DPF, degraded oil causes sludge and blockages. Change it at a maximum of 15,000 km.
Truth: the EGR and DPF need care, not neglect
Cleaning the EGR and maintaining the DPF on time prevents emergency mode and expensive repairs. Blocking or cancelling it is illegal and will fail your ITV.
Truth: AdBlue is maintenance, not a luxury
Fill it with quality product and don't let it run to empty. Crystallization is the most common and expensive fault.

Frequently asked questions
Is diesel bad for city driving?
For 100% urban use and short trips, it suffers (DPF/EGR). For highway driving, excellent.
Is DPF removal a good idea?
No: it's illegal, it will fail the ITV, and it pollutes. It's better to clean it.
How often should I check the diesel?
Oil/DPF/EGR based on mileage; we'll create a tailored plan for you.
