Code P0562: Low electrical system voltage - Battery and alternator
The code P0562 indicates that the vehicle's electrical system voltage is below the normal threshold (generally less than 12V with the engine running, when it should be between 13.5V and 14.5V). This issue is usually related to the battery or the alternator.
Why is the correct voltage important?
Your car needs a stable voltage to power all electronic systems: engine ECU, sensors, injection system, airbags, ABS, electric power steering, and much more. Low voltage can cause erratic failures in multiple systems.
Causes of P0562
Old or faulty battery (average lifespan: 4-5 years), alternator not charging correctly (brushes, regulator, diodes), loose, broken, or improperly tensioned alternator belt, loose or corroded battery connections, excessive parasitic draw (something draining the battery when the car is off), or damaged wiring in the charging circuit.
Associated symptoms
Difficulty starting, especially in cold weather, flickering or dimming lights, electronic systems restarting on their own, battery warning light on the dashboard, slow electric windows, and the radio or screen turning off randomly.
Quick diagnostic
With a simple voltmeter, you can determine if the problem is the battery (less than 12.4V with the engine off = discharged battery) or the alternator (less than 13.5V with the engine running = faulty alternator).
