Car air conditioning maintenance: a guide for Mallorca
In Mallorca, air conditioning isn't a luxury, but a needWith temperatures exceeding 35°C in summer, a well-maintained air conditioning system is essential for your comfort and safety while driving. We'll show you how to keep it in top condition.
How often should the air conditioning be recharged?
The air conditioning system naturally loses approximately 10-15% of its refrigerant gas per year. We recommend a recharge every 2 years or whenever you notice the system isn't cooling as effectively as usual. In Mallorca's climate, where the AC works hard from May to October, it's especially important to keep it well-maintained.
Symptoms that your AC needs maintenance
The air doesn't cool like it used to, warm air comes out instead of cold, a bad smell is noticed when turning on the AC (fungi and bacteria in the evaporator), the compressor makes strange noises, a click is heard when turning on the AC but it doesn't cool, or the windshield fogs up more than usual.
Preventive AC maintenance
Turn on your AC for at least 10 minutes every week, even in winter, to keep the seals lubricated. Make sure to change your cabin filter every 15,000 km or annually, and have the evaporator disinfected once a year to get rid of any fungi and bacteria. Don't forget to check your gas level before the really hot weather kicks in!
