What is engine oil viscosity?

The viscosity it's the oil's viscosity, or, put simply, how easily the oil flows inside the engine. You'll see it indicated on the packaging as, for example, 5W30, 10W40 o 0W20.

• The first number (before the W) indicates the oil's cold-weather performance (W = Winter). The lower the value, the more fluid the oil will be during a cold start.

• The second number represents the oil's behaviour at high temperatures. The higher the number, the thicker the oil will be when the engine is hot.

Why is it so important to use the right oil?

Each engine is designed to work with a specific type of oil. Using the wrong one can lead to:
